LOMBOK ART & CRAFTS
On Lombok there is more crafts than art. The main crafts of Lombok
are practical items made for everyday use, but showing great skills
and finish, traditional techniques and natural, locals materials.
Villages specialize
in
certain crafts, and it's interesting to travel to a number of them,
seeing hand weaving in one village, basket ware in another and
pottery in third. Lombok's Pottery
is gaining an international reputation for its quality
workmanship. In the villages of Penujak, Banyumulek and
Masbagik, all located within one hour's drive from
Mataram, one can see pottery makers painstakingly molding vases, jugs and plates in exactly the same way as they have been crafted for centuries. Only done by women, the pottery is all shaped by hand without the aid of a potter's wheel. There are also numerous traditional looms producing varieties of hand-woven materials of very good quality.
LOMBOK WOODEN MASK, BOXES AND PRIMITIVE CARVINGS
Many of this product can be found in some art galleries in Bali's Legian St, or Ubud. They are well marketed in Bali, and often claim as original Bali's art. Two main villages in Lombok where they mainly produce those items are; Labuapi and Rungkang Jangkuk.
ROTAN CRAFTS AND FURNITURE
Although This handy crafts and furniture not being distribute world wide yet but Rotan crafts and furniture is very popular in Lombok or even in Indonesia. The traditional way to made the crafts and furniture is unique, difference, and smooth.
LOMBOK PEARLS
Lombok
and Sumbawa's seashore are potential and pollution-free for Oyster Farm. Many Japanese investors are involved in developing sea pearls and black pearls. Sekotong, East Lombok, and North West of Lombok are the places where most sea pearls comes from.
LOMBOK LIME STONE
Lime stone is a new crafts in Lombok it's becoming popular nowadays in Lombok, most of the star Hotel made the Lime stone as lobby decoration.
Tradional Hand Weaving
There are two main well known villages
which produce traditional hand
weaving
village in Lombok, Sukarara ( Central Lombok), and Pringgasela (east
Lombok). Typical tenun ikat and sarong are produced here. The sarong
is not only a comfortable article of clothing but can serve as a
sheet, towel and multitude of other uses. Songket, is one of the
most complicated hand weaving that usually done by women from
generation to generation. The process can take over a month to reach
one piece of songket. Some expensive songket combines silver or gold
strings to give a touch of natural, shiny motif. Other kind of hand
weaving is called Ikat Weaving, usually done by men.

Scuba Diving In Lombok
Lombok offers interesting scuba diving for
beginners to experienced divers. The main
diving takes place around the Gili islands
which lies in the
northwest of Lombok in the strait between
Lombok and Bali. Through the Lombok strait
between Bali and Lombok flows the Indonesian
Through flow (Arus
Lintas Indonesia), a massive flow of water
that passes from the Pacific to the Indian
Ocean. The result is a rich underwater life
and during certain times of the year also
large fish like sharks, eagle rays, turtles
and manta rays come and visit the reefs.
