Gili Trawangan Welcome to Gili Trawangan! The largest island and furthers from the mainland. but easily to reached in less than an hour by local boat. This is the most famous of the three Gili island with a reputation as "party island". While this reputation refers to the many fun parties held at different bars and restaurants on the island, it is a misleading description of this lovely place.
The Gili Trawangan beaches invites visitors for swimming, snorkelling, sun bathing, or just lazing around chatting to the locals under the shady trees. "If you come during the peak season (July, August - December - January) most places are full and doubled prices, an advance booking is a must. Accommodations There is a wide variety of accommodations on Gili Trawangan, ranging from simple home stays to up market hotels, bungalows and villas with swimming pools, for more accommodation please see places to stay. There's a great selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, particcularly toward to the southern end, known locally as "Central".
Many of these host night time parties which start late and go on till there are finished. not all the island is GO! GO! GO! thought.
General Information and Activities
The Pasar Seni is good shopping spot for souvenirs and necessities and there are quite few places offering internet access. Dive Companies abound, catering for all levels divers and in many languages. it is possible for snorkellers to accompany dive trips off the island. for activities such as water skiing wake boarding or kayaking, try some of the diving companies. glass bottom boats can also be hired for viewing the marine life and the fantastic coral. Trawangan is home to the Gili Eco trust which involves the dive companies and the local community working together to preserve and improve the marine environment around the islands. Night Life As the island known as the party island, many establishment which once laid claim to hosting wild dance parties today trade on their reputation. By a tradition that continous today, only one establishment pernight can play music and host dance party until 4 am of the seven weekly venues hosting parties the one most anticipated by tourists and locals alike are the funk house and hard music parties with local DJ's in spinning disks. If wild dance parties are not to your liking, many restaurants and bars, provide a range of more sedate and social gathering point for al fresco dinning and dringking by the waters edge.
Moving Around
To get around the islet, you will not find any Cars or
Motorcycles on any of the
Island because they are prohibited by local living there. The
only means of transport are Cidomos, horse drawn carriages.
Bicycle rental are available too. Expect higher prices for
most tings there since all food and goods must be brought
over from the mainland.
