Trekking In Wae Rebo and Tour To Komodo Island

Mbaru Niang has a unique structure differs from the ordinary rectangular house; it has a joint firing place for eight families living in the house. Mbaru Niang houses are round and windowless, with a central hearth and a ridge pole sticking out from a conical, thatched roof sloping down to the floor.

Wae Rebo has been supported to become the major culture tourism attraction in the West Flores area. Visitors are welcome to spend the night in Mbaru Niang traditional house and to dine on local cuisine with the Wae Rebo community members.

The rain forest along the trek to Wae Rebo is one of the biologically richest areas in Indonesia. The forest is simply like a huge Garden of Eden. It hosts a splendid variety of vegetation from orchids, palms to ferns. Bird watching is a wonderful experience here, with the wide range of singing birds around.

Follow the path of a clear and fresh river on the way up to the village. Enjoy your stay at Wae Rebo and take pleasure in the breathtaking view on your way back to the lower land.

The most common route to take from Labuan Bajo to Wae Rebo is by taking the main Trans Flores road, which takes visitors on a scenic view route to the heart of Flores’s mountainous area, passing Tado Village. Afterwards continue east in the direction of Ruteng, then cut across the Trans Flores road following the road heading to Denge Village, from where the trek starts. However, visitors can also take an alternative route, combining road travel and a boat ride to reach Wae Rebo. This alternative route starts from Labuan Bajo by following the main Trans Flores Road to Nangalili (4 hours car drive – refer to the map below).

From Nangalili, visitors then switch the travelling experience by taking a boat ride to Dintor (2 hours boat ride). From Dintor, the travelling options would be taking a car/motorbike ride or walking to Denge for 6 km. Denge is the mountain hill village, the starting point for the trekking up to Wae Rebo. As trekking up to Wae Rebo takes around 4 hours, visitors can chose to stay overnight in Denge and to continue the journey up on the following morning. For those who decided to continue to Wae Rebo for the night, they will not be disappointed by the warm welcome of the local community upon arrival. Dining with the Wae Rebo people and experiencing directly the life inside and around the Mbaru Niang will surely induce the feeling of being a part of the extended families with rich history passing down the bloodlines for many generations since way before our time..

6 Days Komodo Tour and Wae Rebo Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Bali - Labuan Bajo - Ruteng (L-D)
Depart Bali to Labuhan Bajo at 10.30 am by Merpati ( MZ 6550 ) our Local staff will meet you upon arrival in Labuhan Bajo airport, greet and meeting service then drive you to Ruteng, lunch will be serve at local restaurant on the way to Ruteng. Stay and over night at Ruteng guest house. Free at your own leisure time.

Day 2 : Ruteng – Liang Bua –Iteng -Dintor – Denge (B-L-D)
Take early bird breakfast at hotel, after breakfast your guide will excorting you to visit Liang Bua, The homo Floresiensis village, called Hobbit. Continue drive to Ruteng via Golo Lusang to Iteng, you can take a quick stop on the way to take a pictures, your lunch will be serve at Iteng. Drivr through the southern coast to Dintor and Denge will have some quick stop on the way. You will stay at Villager house at Denge Village, Dinner and over night.

Day 3 : Denge - Wae Rebo Village (B-L-D)
After light breakfast, start your 4 hours trekking to Wae Rebo village. the Authentic Housing of Manggarai,
located about 1000m above sea level , in the middle of mountain. All are traditional houses, with really
high roofs and they are on 5 levels - the top four are mainly used for storage and all the living areas are
on the bottom. We will stay in a house with 8 families. Here you have chance to keep in touch with the people
and learnt by seeing, asking, and feeling their culture, life and activities. Sleeping mattresses will be
provided. Dinner and overnight will be at the local villager’s house.

Day 4:Wae Rebo – Denge – Dintor -Labuanbajo (B-L-D)
Breakfast, then trekk down to Denge village, lunch will be provided in Denge, after lunch drive to
Labuanbajo via Dintor and Nangalili (depend on the road condition, otherwise we will change the route
through Todo village to Labuanbajo). Dinner and overnight at Bajo Komodo Eco Lodge or Puri Sari beach hotel

Day 5: Labuanbajo – Bidadari – Rinca –Labuanbajo (B-L-D)
Morning after breakfast at your hotel transfer to the pier of Labuan bajo to visit the island of Komodo
Dragons Rinca, after 2 hours sailing start your trekking walking through the typical dry forest to explore
the Island of Komodo dragon, you will find not just the Dragons but also many wild animals like, Timor deers,
wildbuffalo, long-tailed macaque and wild Boars also numerous of birds. Keep your eyes look up as sometime
you will find the young Komodo dragons on the trees.. Return to boat and proceed to Bidadari island for
swimming , snorkeling and relaxing, afternoon back to Labuanbajo. Dinner at Nirwana Restaurant, overnight at
Bajo Komodo eco Lodge or Puri sari beach Hotel

Day 6: Labuanbajo- Denpasar - Trip Conclude
Proceed to departure after Breakfast, before heading to Labuhan Bajo airport your will have last sightseeing by visiting local market and Batu Cermin cave to see the stalactites and stalagmites, then drive you to Labuhan Bajo airport departure for Bali by Merpati flight number: MZ 6551 at 12.35 pm. Trip conclude.
